A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OUR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS

There is no Catswhisker this month but the next meeting of the Society is on Tuesday the 9th January at our usual venue in Chickerell – see below for details. Our guest speaker is Steve White, G3ZVW who is the Editor of the RSGB Yearbook. Please do your very best to attend and support this event: a good attendance of members and friends is essential, please don’t let your Society down! Guests are always welcome of course.

The Society meets at 7:30 for 8pm at the Chickerell Youth Club Hall.

The link below will take you to a map of the area – provided by Streetmap.co.uk

Directions: From Weymouth, proceed Northwest towards Chickerell along the B3157 (Chickerell Road) from its junction with the B3156, Lanehouse Rocks Road (or the Marquess of Granby junction) for approximately one mile. Passing the Army Camp on your left, at the bottom of a dip, turn right into Glennie Way. Follow this road until you pass the Willow Bed Hall on your left. At the bottom of the hill, take the next turning left into Lower Way and then left again into Rashley Road. Ahead you will see the entrance to Chickerell Primary School with the Chickerell Youth Club building to the left. Please note that you have to use the entrance at the side of the building accessed from Fairfield.

Don’t forget that all previous editions of Catswhisker published since our web site was set up in August 1999 are available to read on the SDRS web site which has now had well over 16,000 visits! This link will take you to the ‘members only’ page www.freenetpages.co.uk/hp/g0evw/membersonly.htm where you can get help and instruction about downloading and reading the Catswhisker.

LATEST NEWS ON THE NEW LIFETIME LICENCE

The new Lifetime Licence was launched on Friday the 1st of December 2006.

It has now been clarified that the new Terms and Conditions will only apply to those licensees in possession of the new document but it is planned to send out over 60,000 paper copies over the coming few months.

Until this document is received, licensees should still operate under the terms of their existing BR68. Licensees wishing to operate under the new Terms and Conditions and who have not received the new document should register on the Ofcom website at www.ofcom.org.uk/licensing/olc/. They will be allowed to download the new licence once they have received a user name in the post. These licences will then remain valid for an initial period of five years or until personal circumstances such as address changes need to be notified. More information can be found by clicking on the link below which will take you to the appropriate page on the Ofcom website.

To date these include, GB0MBS – the International Marconi Day event this year, the GB6VE special Event Station at the Nothe Fort Weymouth in May 2005, GB0NFM – Museums On The Air 2005 and 2006, and International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend 2006, also at the Nothe Fort.

Enjoy the pictures and please feel free to use the Blog if you wish. The pictures can be downloaded by ‘right clicking’ and choosing the option ‘save picture (or image) as’. Higher resolution copies are available from Geoff, G0EVW if anybody wants them.
